How long have you been CrossFitting?
  This month will be ten months!

Tell us about yourself… Where are you from? What’s your occupation?  Well, I was born in Puerto Rico, lived in San Angelo basically my whole life, and I work in the Healthcare Industry! I just turned 28 on September 1, and I have a 7 year old daughter. I like to read and write, and a fun hobby of mine is creating custom made designs on yeti tumblers.

How did you hear about San Angelo CrossFit and why did you decide to join?  I heard about it through Facebook, and I knew a few people who highly recommended it. I joined because I wanted something different than the traditional gym. I wanted my workouts to be more fun and challenging, rather than the dull boring ones I was used too. I also did not know much about strength training and lifting, so I really wanted to learn that aspect as well.

How have you seen yourself change – mentally or physically – since being a part of San Angelo CrossFit?  Yes, definitely. Before San Angelo Crossfit, I had the mindset of giving up when it came to working out, partially because I was not motivated, and also because I didn’t have anyone who would push me. I was a solo gym stan, and once I got too bored or got sick of the treadmill, I would leave and dread it again the next day. Now I am excited to go workout every single day, and I love to see how far I can push myself. Physically, I have seen myself get stronger and stronger. I also have friends and family who tell me they can see a change in me. There is still a long way to go, but I trust in my coaches and the process
so I know I will eventually get there 🙂

What is your favorite movement and do you have a favorite WOD?  I like power cleans! Those can really test your strength and power! I really liked the Hero WOD we did a few Saturdays ago, Havana! It had some power cleans, double unders, and pushups!

What is your least favorite movement?  My least favorite thing to do is run. I’d rather do burpees than run lol. I am rather slow and I need to work on my stamina apparently, but knowing it’s my least favorite tells me I need to probably do it more.

If you were asked to name a WOD what would the name be and what would it include?  Dark and Twisty is my mantra, so I would name it that! I would probably do an EMOM cause I like those the best and add some Skull Crushers, double unders, wall ball shots, some calories, maybe some dumbbell power snatches? I am no expert so I don’t even know if those would go together! Lol

What are some of your goals for the coming year?  I am trying to RX more and more movements. So that is definitely one goal. I try to incorporate and practice one movement at a time on my own as well at the box. I try not to overwhelm myself with learning so many different things at once. CrossFit is a sport, and with any sport, you need to be consistent every day and train/practice.

How do you see CrossFit being different than other fitness programs?  First of all, Crossfit is so much fun! I never thought I would say that about working out. But it something I look forward to every day. I try to go 5 times a week so I can definitely say it is part of my daily life. If you don’t like something, you will probably not succeed fully in it; so I think what makes this different than other fitness programs is that everyone who goes to San Angelo CrossFirt goes because they love it and are serious about their fitness and health. In my previous fitness journeys, I knew people (myself included) who forced themselves to go to the gym, even though they hated it. Guess where those people are at now? Either at San Angelo Crossfit (me), or they completely gave up. Crossfit is different because it is consistent, and if you do it right you will see results in your overall fitness.

How can other people relate to your story?  I am not a fitness guru. I do not fit into any of those Crossfit stereotypes other people probably gather about the sport. I am an ordinary 28 year old single mom, who has a normal job, does normal things, I
am not spectacular at really anything, but there is one thing I can say, and that is I still make time for my fitness health and lifestyle. One hour day, 5 times a week, has really made me stronger physically and mentally. Crossfit is something I never saw myself doing. I always thought it was too “hardcore” for me. Anyone who knows me knows I am clumsy and uncoordinated. If I can do it, you can do it. TRUST ME!!

If you controlled the music, what would we be working out to?  I like anything with a pumped up beat! I would probably link the music to my Pandora or Spotify account which is shuffled with all my music. So it would probably be a little bit of System of a Down, Drake, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, Bebe Rehxa, Camila Cabello, Steve Aoiki.

What is something that others may not know about you?  Hmmm…I been learning Korean for the past year with my 7 year old. It’s something fun that we can do together while engaging our brains. I can read it and write it, just not understand it! Lol we are planning on visiting soon and testing our knowledge!
