How long have you been a member of San Angelo CrossFit?
September 2020 marks one year.
Tell us about yourself… Where are you from? What’s your occupation?
That’s a long story. I’m a Canadian who went to college on an athletic scholarship and never moved back
home. I met my husband in college in Iowa and together we have traveling across the country going
wherever Football takes us since, he’s a Football Coach. We have been blessed with three awesome
children and have lived in Iowa, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and now Texas! I work in the non-profit
sector and have always been passionate about helping children, and people with intellectual disabilities.
How did you hear about SACF and why did you decide to join?
I was in a bit of a rut before SACF. I had friends in other cities that raved about CrossFit and told me
what to look for in a good box. With credentials in mind, I googled and found SACF. I wanted something
that was fun, and where I could be a bit competitive.
How have you seen yourself change – mentally or physically – since being a part of SACF?
Yes, I’ve definitely changed both mentally and physically. I have learned to strive for progress not
perfection since in CrossFit, you can always get faster, stronger or do more reps. Physically, I have
enjoyed gaining muscle and seeing that body fat percentage continue to go down!
What is your favorite movement and do you have a favorite workout?
Deadlifts are cool but I’m slowly coming around to Power Cleans I like those. I don’t have a favorite
workout yet (they are all super hard to me).
What is your least favorite movement?
Pull-ups were designed solely to torture people and nobody can convince me otherwise.
If you were asked to name a workout what would the name be and what would it include?
That’s easy! I’d name the workout Razzle Dazzle, and it would have Power Cleans, Box Jumps, Toes thru
Rings, and a bit of Biking for good measure.
What are some of your goals for the coming year?
There is still so much I need to learn like: Pull Ups, Dubz, and Handstand Push Ups. I’d also like to
continue my journey of getting fit and lowering my body fat percentage.
How do you see SACF being different than other gyms you’ve been a part of?
The 5am crew is MONEY!! I love being a part of an inclusive, welcoming group that celebrates your PR’s
with you and cheers you on when you are struggling and the last person to finish a WOD. (That
happened a lot earlier on). This dynamic is demonstrated by all coaches and I’m so grateful to feel as
though I belong.
How can other people relate to your story?
EASY! Have you ever jumped on a scale, was shocked by the number so you stripped down to your
skivvies and the scale still didn’t move?! … I HAVE! (haha) Look, I have 3 kids, a husband, a busy job, a
dog and I have a bunch of excuses to not workout each day. However, at some point, you have to fight
for yourself, and prioritize your health. You can have excuses like I did in the past or you can have
reasons to work out like 3 kids, a husband, coworkers that rely on you and a dog. Did you know, a one
hour workout is only 4 % of your day? You are worth so much more than 4 %.
If you controlled the music, what would we be working out to?
UGH please let me control the music!! I would have a great mix of Rap, Hip-Hop, and a bit of Heavy
Metal and House Music thrown in for some flair.
What is something that others may not know about you?
I’m a firm believer in NOT wasting your time pairing up socks. I never do it, and therefore, my socks
almost never match. LOL!
